How many times have you found yourself sitting watching TV commercials, and then having a strange desire to go to the store? The power of advertising is undeniable. In a consumer society, effective advertisement is the key to business success.

Your resume is no exception.

Your resume is, in fact, an advertisement for YOU. You’re selling yourself to your potential employers, and you want to be sure to highlight your best features.

Tips for Writing an Effective Ad:

  • Sell Yourself! : There are times and places for modesty. Writing your resume is neither. Be sure to showcase your talents and skills - talk yourself up! Any successful accomplishment is resume fodder, so start making your list now!
  • Showcase Your Benefits:  When you buy a product, it’s generally because the advertisement showed you how you would benefit from owning it. In your resume, be sure to show the benefits of choosing YOU!  Show the potential employer how you can help their business and solve their problems, and you’re as good as hired.
  • Use Powerful Words:  Use strong verbs and adjectives in your resume. Words are powerful - use them to your advantage
  • Be Attractive:  Be sure to check your resume for formatting, spelling, and grammatical errors. A resume that contains them is instantly unappealing, and could lose you the job. Don’t just rely on spellcheck,  proofread your resume carefully.

Your resume is an advertisement for a very important product - YOU. Use these tips to design a power packed ad that will sell your skills and talents to a potential employer.
