Employers are using phone interviews more often as a way to pre-screen applicants before bringing them in for a face to face interview. Other employers are using them as a way to interview long distance applicants for the first time, before investing time and money in long distance travel. Either way, in today’s job market it is a wise idea to be prepared for a telephone interview.

Prepare for a Phone Interview Using These Tips:

  •  Make Lists: You’ll be able to use your notes, so be sure to make lists of answers to interview questions, strengths and weaknesses, and any other information you’d like to have handy if an interviewer calls
  • Keep a Resume Handy: Tape up a copy of your resume near each phone, so that you have it available when needed. This will make it easy to access, and save stressful rummaging
  • Clear the Room: If an interviewer calls, enlist help to clear the room of noisy distractions such as children, barking dogs, or loud background noises. You want to have a professional phone presence.

These tips will help you to have a no-sweat phone interview, and help you shoot straight to the top! You’ll be moving on to your in person interview in no time.
