Most resumes are rejected for one reason - lack of a clear objective. If your resume is wishy washy, wandering from topic to topic with no clear purpose, it’s doomed for the circular file. Take the time to draw up a clear objective for your resume to be sure it finds its way to the top of the stack.

A resume with a clear objective should have the following features:

A Concise Goal:  State your goal at the top of the page. Make it clear, concise, and easy to understand.

A Clearly Stated Job Target: Don’t make the reader wonder what position you’re applying for, or why you’re applying.  State your job target clearly.  For example - Objective: To obtain a position as Human Resources Manager with Company X

Keep It Simple: Your objective statement is not the time for big words or flowery adjectives. Save the elaboration for later on in your resume. For now, focus on the job you want, and why you want it.

Avoid the biggest resume mistake - failure to add an objective statement to your resume. Be sure to state the position you hope to obtain clearly at the top of the resume. This is extremely helpful to human resources managers, who handle many resumes each day. Be direct, concise, and to the point. Increase your resumes’ selling power today - add an goal-based objective statement.
